 News and Announcements'

               19th January 2012 Update

Happy New Year to all cricketing folks, April is not to far away which is the normal start of season month for the Old Doms, keep watching these pages for the 2012 season fixtures which Marky Hunt is working away at.

Some developments on the website front - The Old Doms now have a Twitter feed on the Home page where Tweets will bring up to date news of Doms events and match progress updates as they happen, Chicken's idea for a Tweet feed has been been taken up by the Webmaster and we hope that this will add a new dimension for Doms communication. Other website improvements will become obvious as they are implemented.

               9th November 2011 Update

And the winners are.....

Yes the Old Dom Awards night went with a swing on 4th November at the Tally Ho club. It was a great night with a large chunk of the Old Doms players and families  in attendance. Social Secretary Colin Hunt had come up trumps again in arranging the event, well done that man. Tank and Pedro "hosted" the event, not sure which one was Ant or Dec using state of the art technology - hell it felt like you were at the Oscars !

The Awards went to:

Players Player - Alex Rich

Captains Award - Tom Perry

Bowler - Alex Rich

Batsman - Steve Morris

Fielder - Tom Hickin

Tony Peck Award - Stuart Rich

Bails up of the Season - not sure !

It was also great to have Sam Peck present her dads award, great moment.

So that's about it for the year other than a "curry night out" - this year we are arranging this for sometime in January - more details later.

              12th September 2011 Update

Great news!!!  The Doms played in the Bromsgrove CC 6's tournament yesterday and won the Plate Final by 27 odd runs. The Doms had a "blend" of youth and experience in their squad of 8 players. In all the games the Doms played they were close affairs up until the Plate Final where the Doms set a masterful total that was never threaten by the Posties team who were about 27 runs short.

There was some outstanding performances to note, Pedro's first two innings saw him run out without facing a ball but came good in the final blasting a max score before being retired, Baggers brilliant over in the final where the batsmen failed to hit his six balls of dross and tripe but the pick of the bunch was Dolly who batted and bowled well above his normal capabilities (possibly due to his match preparation regime). The 8 man squad was made up of Pedro, Stato, Alice Rich, Baggers, Chickin, Wrighty, Dolly and Lasty. The pencil was pushed with some accuracy even in the drizzle by Stu Rich.

It was good to see support provided by Jonners, the Hands Anstey clan and the Morris contingent although they seemed to provide support mainly from the bar area!! It was good to see Colin Morris being given a day out again which included a visit to the local tip before being able to watch the Doms perform!

A great day for the Doms, just two matches left and the 2011 season will be put to bed. The Presentation Evening will be held on Friday 4th November at the Tally Ho - 6.30 kick off. More info to follow on this.

              5th September 2011 Update

With only 2 games to go 17th and 18th September we have now fixed a date for the AGM - 7th October at 7am in the Bromsgrove Club house - get there and get involved in running your club. We may even end up having a curry after.

Its the Bromsgrove 6's next Sunday so get along and support the Old Doms team who may well get past the first round this year!! Starts at 10am.

              9th May 2011 Update

Our intrepid President is still trying to sort out a few matches for the Doms down under, unfortunately he's failed... (click on image to resize)

A decent artificial track at the local cricket club but alas all packed up for the 'winter'....captain cook didn't entirely think it through did he? :-)

             19th April 2011 Update

Well an explosive start to the season! We all look forward to "hopefully" a more even matched game on Sunday against new comers Dingle CC. Match starts promptly at 1pm. Tea list on http://olddomstalking.creatingforum.com/ .

The 2011 Tour preparations are well underway with Marky Hunt doing all the arrangement work. We are off to the IoM for a week at the beginning of August. Please let Mark know if you intend to tour. Also Stato has proved a complete Tour Result list which can be digested on the Tour Page.

                  27th January 2011 Update

Colin has been at it again! A message from Colin reads...

"Happy new year to you, could you put something on website for me please. As the new year has come & gone and the cricket season will soon be upon us it would nice to have a get together, so on the 18th March at Bromsgrove cricket club a race night doors open 7.30pm first race 8.00pm"

Keep watching out for more info on this but why not get the date firmly pencilled in your new dairies.

Also Mark has been working away gathering dates for next season matches, so go and have a look the list and get the dates included in that new diary..

                  10th January 2011 Update

More form our Aussie correspondent....

Julia and jonners

Taken at PMs XI v England in Canberra today...... Aussie PM, Julia Gillard requests the presence of ODCC President for briefing on his part in the demise of her proud cricketing nation. Naturally he wouldn't be drawn on specifics but in the general spirit of things agreed to a quick grope and piccie, which he also duly signed for her. tee hee:-)

                  1st January 2011 Update

A Happy New Year to you all and what a first day of the year Update treat we have for all visitors of the Doms website...at long last Jonners has broken the embargo on his secret mission down under. All of those who were taken in by "I'm just going to follow the team around and spend some of my pension "... well the truth is now out. With the Ashes retained Jonners was able to tell all that his real reason for going to Aussieland was to act as batting and spin coach. The Webmaster can reveal with photographic evidence that the man behind England's success was no other than Jonners himself. Sadly he failed with Colly and and ruined Swanee's ability to spin the ball ! But hey he's not super human as we all know.

Here are some of his failures and a successes.....

Colly    Swanee   Andrew

             4th September 2010 Update

Copy of a begging email received....

Mr Last,

I am not sure if you are the man to talk to but as you are probably aware my little sister is getting married in October in Cyprus.  Only a select few have been invited to the ceremony so you reprobates can’t gate crash on the day.

However she has asked if you and the Old Doms would like to join her and her new husband on the evening of Saturday 6th November at Cadbury Club in Bournville.

The evening will be hosted in the Appleton Suite and proceedings start at 7.30pm.  Kids welcome.

Could you do a general invite via email or maybe through the Old Doms Facebook page please?

Also if people could respond to either Julie or myself by 4th October we would be most grateful so that we can confirm numbers  to the club for food etc?

Thanks for your help.

Best Regards

Justin Anstey

So if you want a spiffing night out and a chance to kiss the bride or alternatively Justin contact Julie (she may be free if she's not working on the farm) or Justin.

            10th August 2010 Update

Well the season is entering its final quarter and the Essex Tour has been done. What a great tour it was to, two wins and two defeats. A great knock of 163no by Sammy Hickingbotham and two good knocks, one a ton, from Rolex not to mention his 5for. Well done to Mark Hunt for arranging this, good job done old boy.

A couple of changes to the fixtures, we now play Pilkington on 4th Set instead of Hewell on 5th. Also the 6's have changed dates. Go to the Fixtures page to catch up on theses changes.

           5th June 2010 Update

Old Doms Race Night is cancelled, so dont  turn up on 16th July with your horse box !

             3rd June 2010 Update

Its June already and the Doms are well into the season and no sign of any matches being called off for weather problems, lets keep the old fingers crossed !

Two items of news, one a plea from Jonners, which is...

Hi All

Kully asked me about retirement stuff last week (and a few others have since). If it helps (and I promise I’m making to no assumptions here) I would prefer not to have a collection BUT – yes, there had to be slightly less good news – on 11 July I’m part of a small group doing the British 10k London Run on behalf of Depression Alliance and would very much appreciate any sponsorship at all however small.

Over the past 2 years I’ve lost 3 people close to me and depression was very much a feature with all three. We can be sponsored online, which only takes 5 minutes and the money goes direct to our chosen Charity. If you follow this link you will see a short summary from the late Charlie Leydon’s son Adam, which I hope is self-explanatory.

Please contact me if you require more information.

The link is http://original.justgiving.com/charlieleydon   (may require CTRL + click)

Many thanks indeed

Warmest regards and best wishes

Jonners

So Doms click on the link and donate a few pounds to John charity NOW. Most will know Jonners is retiring from giving many dedicated years working in the NHS and true to form he would rather people not give him a retirement pressy but to donate to those who need help. So go on give a few bob and help someone.

Secondly, iiiitttssssssssssssss   RACE NIGHT

Yep our intrepid "Social Secretary" Colin "Lester Piggot" Hunt has arranged another event for the Doms and family and friends. The details are;

                                        Old Doms Race Night

                                              at Bromsgrove CC

                                             on 16th July at 7pm

Only 50p entry and the first race starts at 8pm

So put this date in your diary and put your shirt on Chickin to win the sprint races.....

           24th May 2010 Update

A good win yesterday and a brilliant 106 from Tom Perry, go to the Reports page to read all about it. Don't forget to make you availability known on the Forum so that Steve can pick the teams in good time.

A finally its sad news for Tank, one day scoring an hundred then rejection for South Africa all in a day...

         6th May 2010 Update

Well the season is well on the way now, the Doms have had a "steady" start, 2 defeats and one win. Some promising early season form from Hodgy, Kath and Rob. We have a great fixture list again with loads of matches thanks to Marks great efforts. The teas have started well with Mrs Cakes having a good early run out. Robs ham sandwiches have peaked and  Gazelle's quiche offering had "portion issues", but on the whole we look strong in the tea stakes again.

The webmaster received and interesting email which shows that other people visit the website other than Old Doms players. Have reproduced the email text as some of the "older" players may well remember the Selly Oak team of that era.

Dear Old Doms,

Just read your club history .

You may find it interesting to know that the present vice chairman of Bromsgrove c.c ( Denis Duffy ) was  the captain and main driving force behind Selly Oak Hospital C.C between 1963-1973 . The team was very strong many of its members were playing well below their level and went on to make their mark in club and league cricket .

Alan Munn and Roger Price followed Denis Duffy to Bromsgrove C.C and made their mark in the first team .

Other players played for Barnt Green and Aston Manor amongst other teams . In 1973 the hospital informed my farther that they were unhappy that not enough hospital people were in the team ( this was very true ) and a great side was no more .

Glad to see you are enjoying your games at Bromsgrove .

P.J.Duffy

Bromsgrove C.C

                                                 Important stuff

Most players will now know of the arrangements regarding letting Steve know of your match availability. You need to "post" your availability on the clubs Forum on the appropriate Team Selection thread. You can access the Forum through the link on the Forum web page or putting     http://olddomstalking.creatingforum.com/forum.htm into you Favourites. You can also join in the debates about Stats and Post Match Reviews. So why not go to the Forum and start talking....

         15th April 2010 Update

Its here the season has started but not with a bang but the usual "we cant turn up" excuse from Earlswood so Mark is trying to sort out a team to play. If I had a pound for every time Earlswood find an excuse not to play I would be sunny myself in Weston Super Mare !!

Lets hope that Mark can pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat again.

Nets have started again at Bromsgrove CC so lets see a good turnout on Mondays - no excuses!

A reminder about who provides what for teas....

1. Cheese sandwiches

2. Ham sandwiches

3. Tuna or egg sandwiches

4. Pasta

5. Quiche and salad

6. Sausage rolls/pork pies

7. Pizza

8. Crisps and milk

9. Cakes (home made)

10. Cakes (home made)

11. Players choice

I understand that Rob has been hording cheap crisps in the hope that he would be number 8 on the list, sadly it gets worse he's down for ham on the hoof sandwiches !!

Hopefully Mark will sort out some opposition and we can get playing cricket again.

DONT forget to leave your availability on the Doms Forum link to the Forum is from the Forum page on this website or by clicking here .... http://olddomstalking.creatingforum.com/forum.htm

Only ten players have registered for the Forum so go there right now and register and use it.

Watch these pages for match results and the Roving Reporters hard hitting reports. Have a great season.

         31st March 2010 Update

Well the season is just around the corner, nets have started for the past few weeks at Bromsgrove School but the News Reporter understands that the nets at Bromsgrove are open this week so watch out for news on that one.

We nearly have a full calendar of fixture thanks to Marks sterling efforts. You will notice some new teams appearing, Tividale CC and Ward End CC who will give us a stern test I'm sure.

Finally, my sources tell me that Stuart Rich has passed his umpiring exams - well done Stu. BUT I also understand he has set himself a goal of using all 10 ways to give players out. Apparently he has pencilled in the following players for each of the 10 ways to get out...

Caught - Pedro, always prone to knocking his balls in the air.

Bowled - Tank has to be favourite for this one given the shots he played last season.

LBW - Jonners "I love French cricket" Anstey, a cert

Run Out - Last, especially when batting with Stato Steve.

Stumped - Manoj, if ever a player looked confused!

Hit wicket - Dolly, has been in the nets practising this one.

Handled the ball - obvious choice is  Sammy Moore as his hands are always down his trousers.

Hit ball twice - Alice Rich, its the only way he will get the ball to the boundary.

Obstructing the field - Chickin unless there is a decline in his weight over the next few weeks

and finally..

Timed out - non other than the timeless Rolex Rob Rolls.

Keep watching the news and emails regarding the net sessions at Bromsgrove. Only 19 days to our first match of the season.

         18th February 2010 Update

Two bits of news....the first being that Mark has continued to update the Fixture list, we now have around 40 games booked so far. Go there now and book the dates in your diaries. Great work by Mark. and secondly the Quiz Night result..

1st Sideshow Sidekick

2nd MMM....Beer

3rd Quiz Team Aguila

4th Cop and Nobbers

5th 3 Girls a chicken and a min Pollet

=6th Dovecote and The Paul Pansies

=8th Great Expectations and Ron Burgandy luv's Englebert

10th Jesus Christ Almighty

11th The 4 M's

The night raised £181 for the clubs much needed funds. A big well done and thanks to Colin Hunt who arranged this extravaganza. Great stuff.

         1st February 2010 Update

Well whilst most of the Doms players are recovering from Christmas, oddly playing "farm" games or just trying to find reasons not to turn up to school and to teach our precious little children Mark has been beavering away at the 2010 Fixtures list. Go there now to see the games fixed up so far. Note the extensive tour fixtures in August - you all have plenty of time to sort your diaries out so there should be no excuses not to go, if not for all the matches one or two should be fixed dates in your diary for August. The Fixture list will be updated as and when Mark gets positive dates.

Don't forget the Club Quiz Night, Colin is putting in the "hard miles" getting this arranged.

Further updates will be along as and when....

         3rd January 2010 Update

Well its been some time since our last update. Firstly a belated Happy Christmas and prosperous New Year. Lets hope 2010 is more about how well the Doms are doing rather than some of the sadder points in 2009.

Mark is busy wheeling and dealing with the 2010 Fixture list. The proposed "overseas" tour has been knocked on the head so our chums down in deepest Essex have come up with some games. The Essex 2010 Tour will take off on 2nd August with a triumphant Doms team coming back to the Midlands on Monday 9th August. There are three games organised but Mark may be able to squeeze in more around the drinking time. Mark needs to know numbers to get those texting fingers out and tell Mark you are on for the tour.

Also Colin has organised a "Quiz Night" on 12th February at Bromsgrove CC. Please contact Colin (details on the poster below) to book your team a place - hurry up as places are going fast.

Quiz nite poster

Finally, most of the Stats are in now although some data is still missing and despite numerous reminders to Stato he has unfortunately been to busy with crop rotation and animal husbandry to work on these.

What out for more news on these pages....

         8th November  Update

Some good and some sad news to report...

Firstly, many of the Doms who have toured at Albir will have met Clive Woodbridge a grand stalwart of the development of cricket in Albir that the Doms and many other touring teams over many years have benefited from. Clive has been ill for some time and sadly passed away last Saturday. Those who toured this year will know that the ground had been renamed the "Clive Woodbridge Oval" in recognition of Clive's wonderful vision and endeavours regarding cricket there. A fitting tribute to Clive and his family. The Doms will miss Clive but I'm sure he will keep an eye on things there from above. He wont be forgotten.

Secondly, the Presentation photos have been uploaded and can be viewed on the clubs "Pics" page. Thanks to Pete Boynton for providing these.

Thirdly, for those who are not sure who won what award this is the definitive list..

  • Batting Award - John Hodgson

  • Bowling Award - Robin Rolls

  • Fielding Award - Mark Hunt

  • Captains Trophy - Tom Perry

  • Tony Peck Award - James Hickin

  • Players Player - John Hodgson

Well done to all those who were awarded honours. These were well deserved and also a big congratulations to all the Doms who played and supported the team throughout the season. And of course a big thanks to Colin Hunt who organised this successful  event.

Finally, the end of season stats will appear some time in a near future millennium when Stato has finished farming!

         28th October  Update

The Webmaster is back from this trip down under is now trying to catch up with events back home and update the website. It was intended to do this whilst in Australia but the Webmasters hard drive failed two days before the trip and this caused all sorts of problems with getting the final two match reports onto the website. Those avid readers will know that the reports appeared on the News page as a temporary solution but you will be pleased to note that they have be filed in their rightful position on the 2009 Match Reports page.

Thanks goes out to Chick who in the absence of the Roving Reporter provided  the two remaining match reports for the 2009 season - what a good read they were to. Well done that man.

A further update will be made in the next day or so with the final Players stat for 2009 and the happenings at the recent end of season awards night which I understand was a resounding success.

So keep watch these pages for more updates.

            5th September  Update

The AGM was held today at the Ye Olde Black Cross in Bromsgrove - a good attendance. The most "believable" excuse for non attendance was Philo - car in for MOT! although April came a close second - still in bed...

Out comes...

+ Honorary Life Presents - John Anstey and Tony Peck (posthumously) for services and commitment to the Old Doms (both well deserved).

+ Chairman - Alan Last

+ Vice Chairman - Stu Rich

+ Treasurer - Pedro

+ Secretary - Stu Rich

+ Fixture Secretary - Pedro

+ Club Captain - Stato

All were elected unsurprisingly unopposed!

A club Constitution was accepted with some amendments. Sadly, the Match Subscription was to be kept at the current rate but may be raised when the ground fees are announced. Possibly the worst decision taken at the meeting.

A full copy of the meeting note will be available when Stu has typed them up, a big thank you to all those who attended and contributed to a good meeting.

More details on the Presentation night and forthcoming events will be made available by Colin Hunt (Social Secretary/organiser) when known.

           31st August Update

Well the 25 Anniversary match is over and what a tight game it was, last ball scramble to see the Old codgers team over the line - what  a well scripted end to a fine match played in true Old Doms spirit. It was really good to see lots of old faces and more surprisingly they still played a fair game of cricket. It was a shame to note all those ex players who said they would come down and play/watch but many never even bothered to give apologies - well they missed a treat and mised the chance to catch up with old mates and exchange memories.

The Doms have had three sad deaths this past year of people attached to the club, notably Tony Peck who was entering his tenth season as Captain - he was sorely missed yesterday. Its possibly a sign that many of the Doms are edging into the upper quartile of their playing careers but it is also good to note the many young Doms coming along, April Rich, the Rowan clan and a couple of lads from our landlords Bromsgrove have also played this season. Even Manoj has started a new strain of the Doms - the future is bright!

Also a very big thanks to all the WAGs and Doms ladies who helped out with the cooking and preparation of the most fantastic cricket tea offering you could ever want as a cricketer. It really makes the Doms what it is, a friendly warm group of likeminded lads who have terrific bunch of understanding wives and girl friends who are there in the background making sure we lads are all ok. Marvellous stuff.

A further plea for some support for Lily Anstey who is running the EDF Birmingham Half Marathon ... for charity. The link is below so go there now and pledge a few pounds for her quest. See writes..

Hi Everyone

On October 11th I will be running (or attempting to run) 13.1 miles in the EDF Birmingham Half Marathon for the Railway Children. Please go to www.railwaychildren.org.uk for more information about them.

I know times are tough at the moment but I would really appreciate anything you can give. It all adds up and the money you donate will hopefully put enough pressure on me to get my backside in gear and up the training!

Many Thanks

Lil x

The link is..

http://www.justgiving.co.uk/Lily-Anstey/

The Webmaster will give a brand new Old Doms cricket shirt (with tags) to the Old Dom who sponsors Lily the most - so come on lads a few pounds wont be missed...

        28th August Update

IMPORTANT DATES AND INFORMATION

1. Don't forget the 25th Anniversary games this Sunday at Bromsgrove - if you still have not told Steve of your availability do s o NOW or perhaps just turn up and confuse the poor sod.

2. You are required to attend the AGM on 5th September starting at 12md at the "Ye Old Backcross" pub in the centre of Bromsgrove (parking behind pub) - there hopefully will be some grub to munch through. The Agenda, draft Constitution and draft Club Structure are available to down load from the following links. Be there and have your say how the club is run and to see how you can get more involved.  Click on the following links:  AGENDA    CONSTITUTION  STRUCTURE

3. Watch these pages for more info about the forthcoming Presentation Evening.

Its your club have your say. The only way you can do this is by attending the AGM. see you there.

           21st August Update

The Tour photos can now be seen on the photo's page - in the folder 2009. If any tourist have any further photos (of the tour) get them to the Webmaster for inclusion.

Also another gem from the tour - a vid of Hedrick (I thinks that's the name he gave!) He was pure entertainment - the video does not do his performance justice - Also note Jonners is so excited there is some odd "hand movements" going on under the table...

           18th August Update

The 25th Anniversary Tour is now over - go to the Tour page for all the match reports and stats brought to you by your very own Roving Reporter. More tour information and loads of pictures will follow over the next few days so watch these pages..

Just a little funny vid to make you laugh and remind some of the tour...

           27th July Update

Well the Tour is only a week away and heavens how we need to get away to some sun after a very wet month or so.

Anyway yesterdays match against the Westies produced a "Chickin" moment of madness (read the Match Report) and Rolex was put into a spin when Skipper Morris decided that tea would be taken after the match (note, Constitution may need revision after this decision), Rolex dashed off to the club house to make his ham sandwiches - he wanted the teams to have freshly made fare. Good idea and well thought out but Morris had failed to get the message to him that tea was not to be taken between innings! Well when we finally got down to tea there was great expectation regarding the Rolex ham sandwiches. This was the outcome of Rolex's toils in the kitchen. I will let you make your own minds up.......

           20th July Update

Some crazy photo shots taken at the Beaumont game. Who the hell would turn out looking like that? and poor old Alan Rowan looks like he's out for an afternoon walk pushing something and he hasn't a clue what he's doing...

         13th July Update

Sadly Steve has needed to post this on the Doms Forum......

"I need responses fellas - if you want to be involved in this game, whether on the Doms team or playing for the invitational X1, i need to know!

The day is likely to consist of two twenty over games. The first will start at 1pm with the second starting at around 5pm after a quality Doms tea. Hopefully this will enable us to get everyone playing a decent game and may allow a few people who cannot make the whole day to play some part.

We have already had a good number of dropouts from current Doms which is disappointing. This is the only event we are holding in celebration of the clubs 25 years and i would like to think that people will make the effort to ensure its success
."

Its all a bit sad that we cant get a good turnout for this event - so pull your fingers out lads, its our  25th year for heavens sake!!  Please let Steve know as soon as you can.

8th July Update

Some interesting photos from the Westies match yesterday... click on them to get and enlarged view!

        26th June Update

Some sad news has filtered out of Spain. Some of you will recall Steve Lewis an old adversary on our Spanish tours to Albir, well sadly he passed away 2 weeks ago whilst playing for their 2nd XI. We send all our best wishes to his family and playing colleagues at this time.

Club blazers are on the front burner again - contact Alan Last asap to find out more details.

        22nd June Update

A quick update.....

  • If you want to order a club blazer contact Alan last NOW!!

  • The Old Doms AGM will be held on 5th September at 12.00 (mid day) at the Blackcross Pub in Bromsgrove town centre. Food provided by the club and there is plenty of parking behind the pub.

  • Good news is that we can now use the big kitchen in the club house at Bromsgrove so food can now be left there on match days.

Finally a Competition... what the hell is this all about!!!!

        6th June Update

There appears to be some confusion regarding the LBW rule - the Chairman has decided that he needs to reiterate the MCC regulations regarding what the Umpire should consider before making their decision after an appeal by the bowler.

  1. An Umpire provided by the batting side shall on no account uphold an appeal for LBW unless rules 3 or 4 apply. (i) if the batting side are 9 wks down this rule is absolute unless Rules 3 or 4 apply due to a level of vindictiveness of the players involved.

  2. An Umpire provided by the bowling side shall always uphold an appeal the moment a ball hits the batsman's pads regardless of (a) the ball taking a thick edge from the batsman's bat heard by the ladies making tea, (b) a right arm Malinga like bowler bowling around the wicket at a 45 degree angle, (c) the batsman taking a wild swish followed by the ball hitting the pad outside the off stump by the width of the wicketkeeper and (d) the ball not going to hit the stumps in a month of Sundays.

  3. An Umpire provided by the batting side may uphold an appeal should he feel that (a) the batsman is batting higher in the order than himself, (b) the batsman has an unfavourable high early season average or (c) he just doesn't like him.

  4. An Umpire provided by the batting side may also uphold an appeal should he feel he needs to extract revenge for being given out by the batsman who had previously invoked Rule 3.

        29th May Update

Important statement for Captain Steve Morris...

"Looking at the availability lists for the games this week it is clear that the systems in place are not working. Thank you to those that have made the effort but the time I am spending trying to put teams together is absolutely ridiculous.

Thanks to the efforts of Tony and Mark and our relocation to Bromsgrove the club has made great strides in recent years. We have managed to strengthen our squad without losing our identity and now have a full fixture list which should be allowing us to offer all our players competitive cricket whilst giving the Captain some flexibility in team selection. What seems to have happened is that we have overextended ourselves to the point where we have already selected 28 players in the 10 games this season and I am permanently scratching round for players. We can always drag somebody in to play but one of the great things about playing for the Doms is to play the game with your mates, people whose company you enjoy and who you can have a drink with after the game. For me the whole thing loses some of its appeal if you are playing with people you have never met before.

I am not expecting anybody to be putting the Doms before family or work commitments but how we move forward next year and beyond is something that all members need to consider before we have the next AGM.

What I am expecting however is your cooperation for the remainder of this season. I will be posting teams on the website and the forum one week before a game. If you want to play in a game you will have to text or e mail me to let me know on a weekly basis. No text or e mail will mean no place in the team. If I don't get a reasonable response i will call games off. I await the rush for this weeks games!"

       28th May Update

Its happened again ! tonight's match has been called off by the Henley in Arden lads. I think that a number of teams are afraid to play the Old Doms!!  Lets see if Sundays game takes place...

         26th May Update

News just filtered into the Sports News Desk...... the game at Barnt Green against Whitehill Wanderers has been called off - the Whitehill lads couldn't get eleven players  together. Next match kicks off this Thursday at home to Henley. Be there to watch the Doms get back to winning ways.

         23rd May Update

Message from Trudy..

"Hello everyone

I would like to thank all the Doms yesterday for all their efforts . I nearly faltered when the guard of honour was performed but I was so proud to see you all there in your whites.

The tea was truly fabulous and the sincerity and kindness was overwhelming. I did feel that there were no better people to send Tony off yesterday than the Doms.

It could have been a solemn and morbid affair but you all made it the celebration it should have been.

I would like to give special thanks to Alan for all the hard work with the order of service and the eulogy. John also for the kind and sincere words with Alan and sticking to the time given which I know was a feet of engineering in itself !!!

Stevie Morris for being pall bearer. Heber for coming to the service when I know how difficult it was for him.

Thanks too for the donations which I will give to the designated charities.

All the people that cleaned up after the service.

Thanks again to all of you for turning up and making it a special day to remember.

See you all soon I hope

Lots of Love
Trudy, Tony, Charlotte and Dan xxxxxxx  "

         21st May Update

                                                            Tony Peck

                                         Anthony Richard Wayland Peck

                                             26th December 1952 - 7th May 2009

         17th May Update

The details for Tony's farewell send off are..

Time: 4pm

Place: Worcester Crematorium, Astwood Road, WR3 8HA

Flowers: None, donations to the Friends of Wyche School and Noah's Ark Trust (send donations to Trudy)

Dress Code: Nothing black or mournful. Old Doms in cricket whites with blazer (bring bat for Guard of Honour)

Cricket Wake: BCC Club house,  St Goswold Road, Bromsgrove, B60 3BN. Doms to bring cricket tea.

Please make every effort to attend and we don't want any last minute phone calls from Doms say they cant "play", although I expect Tony would expect it from you lot !!!

if you need further info please email the Webmaster.

       12th May Update

Just an update on the Celebration for Tony, this will be held on Thursday 21st May at 4pm at the Worcester Crematorium. Most will know that Trudy and the Family wants to give Tony a good farewell and does not want people turning up in black or mournful colours. She would like the Doms players to turn up in the Doms whites. A blue blazer over the white cricket shirts would look great, just as when the Queen meets the test team out on the playing area before a Test match. Trudy has suggested a Guard of Honour by the Doms with their cricket bats. Please bring yours.

A Cricket Wake will take place at the Doms home ground of Bromsgrove CC at around 5.30. The Doms lads are asked to provide a cricket tea for Tony and to his high cricket tea standard. More detail on who's providing what will follow in a

few days.

Trudy has requested NO FLOWERS and a donation to a local children's charity (to be announced will follow)

Its a sad time for all but Trudy and the family want to give Tony the best celebratory send off as possible. So lets pull our fingers out and give the old sod a send off he can be proud of.

More info will follow.

   8th May Update

The match was played last night and although it was a very sad time Tony would have enjoyed the match and particularly the result. The full report is on The Reports 2009 Page.

At 3.30 today at the Birmingham Central Mosque the funeral of Yunus will take place. The Old Doms will be represented by Jonnners. We will remember his Old Doms contribution.

      7th May Update

It is with sadness that this news update reports the passing away of Club Captain Tony Peck. Tony died at around 8am this morning. Many readers will know that Tony has been ill for a number of months and has been in Eastbourne General since the beginning of this year. He needed an operation yesterday which apparently was successful but he took a turn for the worse early this morning and could not be saved. More details will be given when available.

A full reflection on Tony's Dom's life and contribution will appear on these pages later.

      5th May Update

More sad news to report I'm afraid. A former Old Dom - Yunus Khnadwalla  was killed yesterday in an RTA by a car being pursued by the police. He was working at the time delivering some medication to a patient. He worked with Phil Walshe. Yunus played for the Doms in its formative years. He toured in 87 and can been seen on the team photo next to John Anstey. Another sad day for the Doms and we send all his family and friends our condolences at this sad tragic time.

      2nd May Update

Unfortunately Earlswood CC are unable to play the fixture arranged for tomorrows game - something unplanned came up !! But our trusty Fixture Secretary has come up with a replacement team to play - we are off to visit Bloxwich CC which is somewhere near Walsall - a foreign part of Greater Birmingham that the Doms have never ventured to. Lets make it a Doms victory!!

The directions are... Bloxwich Stafford Road Sports Club, Stafford Road, Bloxwich, Walsall. WS3 3NJ. Find the Royal Exchange pub on Stafford Road and look for a driveway between the pub and some houses.

Well done Mark for making this game possible at such short notice.

      29th April Update

Further to the recent sad new of Heber's loss we can now bring you the details of Rachael's funeral. This will be held at All Saints Church, Kings Heath on Tuesday 5th May at 1.15. The reception will be at the Victoria Tea Rooms in Kings Heath Park. We, all at the Old Doms  send our best wishes to Heber and Rachael's family during this sad time.

      27th April Update

Some reported that they couldn't see the video on the News item put out on 17th April. A video to inspire you all as we head into to the new season - well the Webmaster has worked miracle and is hopeful this time it will work!!  Steve this will help you for your match day geeups in the dressing room !! Here we go...

      25th April Update

Its sad to announce that Hebers partner Rachael sadly has passed away this week after a long illness. Its been a difficult time for Heber and we wish him well. The Old Doms squad will be thinking of him and his family during this difficult time.

      22nd April Update

Team changes made for Sundays game, Jonners gets another "run out" with his dodgy knee! Could this be the game...only 6 runs required? The Roving Reporter will be there to cover every moment of the match and full coverage of the Anstey innings.

MESSAGE from the CHAIRMAN

" Sorry to bang on about this... BUT I need to raise the issue of wearing helmets again. Recently a professional cricketer in India died after being hit on the head whilst batting without a helmet. He was batting and facing a slow'ish medium pacer when he top edged a pull. The ball hit the side of his head. He played on for half a hour before being given out LBW. Within fifteen minutes of getting back to the dressing room he collapsed and died before they could get him to hospital. The post mortem confirmed he died as a result of the ball causing a cranial bleed.

12% or all sports injuries are down to cricket, over 50% of those injuries were facial/head injuries. Its been reported that at least 3 cricket players a year loose some or all eyesight due to a cricket ball hitting their eye. Even wearing a helmet sometimes cannot stop eye injuries occurring. David Fulton the ex Kent player in 2003 received an eye injury which wrecked his playing career. He ended up with a torn tear duct and remains partially sighted in his right eye. The accident was recorded on video. ***Click here to see the video on the Professional Cricketers’ Association's website ***

So, its really amusing if not a tad sad as I watch you all put on your pads, gloves, some wear thigh pads and pads on their forearms and of course the most essential "box" (other than Tom who plays "commando" and I suppose Kate and Jemma for obvious reason) to protect the ball from hitting you. Then some of you will willing face someone throwing a ball at you without any protection to the area of the body which if hit could kill you or provide permanent damage to your eyes.

I want to see these "matcho" players go out and bat not wearing any pads/boxes/protection. Thankfully they wont do this but stupidly they will put their lives/livelihood at risk because they will not wear a helmet.

If you go to the bottom of this page you will see my last rant on this subject. Since 2005 when it happened to me I have needed to take pain killers three times a day since because of nerve damage in my eye socket. That's 8,760 tablets. I will need to continue to take painkillers indefinitely.

So don't be stupid wear a helmet it could very well be you next!

Rant over...

      20th April Update

What a great start to the season - a 9 wicket stuffing of Old Moseley Arms and in the sun shine to - all bodes well for the season ahead. The "vote caster" by popular demand will be used again this week and you can place your vote on Stato's Match day Report by heading off to the match report now. The results of the polls will appear after each match day report when the poll has closed, so if you scroll down the reports the results will appear !

Just one piece of sad news to report is that Karims dad passed away last week so the Old Doms send their sincere commiserations to Karim, Lorraine and their family.

Keep any news items coming my way by sending to the Webmaster for inclusion, email webmaster@olddoms.org.uk

      17th April Update

Some minor changes to the site - we are testing a "Vote Caster" - go to the 2009 Reports Page and just after the last Roving Reporters report you will (hopefully) find a small vote caster - please cast your vote, its all very simple and a bit of fun. It is hoped that we can use a vote caster as a regular feature for the website.

Sunday is the big kick off to the season - home against Old Moseley Arms which will be a good test of the teams form. We have along season ahead and lots of games to play so please support Steve in getting news of your availability asap and make sure you don't leave things to the last moment.

Given its Steve first "real" game after being appointed (for the second time) I have found a short video of 40 inspirational speeches for him to think about using. Click on Steve's photo to hear and see the video (it should work in most players 0 email the Webmaster if you are having and problems viewing it) - NOW RESITED UNDER 27th APRIL NEWS UPDATE

      13th April Update

Just a quick update, those eagles eyed out there will see the season has started. We had two 45 over "warm up" matches against our landlords Bromsgrove CC. It gave them an early season run out and of course the Doms are always up for playing cricket even if the players we face may be a tad better at the game than we are. But both games were played in the spirit expected and I think both sets of players in the two games enjoyed an early season knock with no tension of league points etc to play for. It also give us a marker on how good we are and I think we didn't let ourselves down.

Its sad to note that the Fantasy League may be called off through lack of support which is a sad thing. Steve is not prepared to spend time working out the points which is a time consuming pastime if the players are not interested in supporting this.

So we now look forward to the season starting proper when we take on Old Moseley Arms CC on Sunday 19th. We have loads of matches to play so its important to support Steve in the match arrangements. I know from experience how frustrating it is when players call off at the last minute so please let Steve know ASAP if you are unable to turn up for a match.

       5th April Update

Hooray the season start in a few days time, sadly many of the squad are unavailable - apparently its Easter weekend and people are off with their families or having pre season surgery. Not a great start for new skipper Morris, but there is a long way to go and the absentees will come flocking back when they want a game.

As usual the Roving Reporter will be bringing you up to date match day reports and some little "extras" will be thrown in - watch these pages.

Tony P is still down in Eastbourne Hospital, there has been some improvement but sadly its a long way off before we will see Pecky at a Doms match.

The Spain 25th Anniversary Tour is well underway with flights and accommodation booked - its should be a great tour. Follow the build up on these pages.

Tom has sorted the clothing out and orders have been sent off for playing shirts and club polo's - hell we will look smart even if we cant play cricket!

Watch these pages for more club news.

          19th March Update

Well the EGM was held and the urgent matter discussed and solutions agreed. The following are the headlines from that meeting.

  1. Johns Anstey’s resignation as Chairman was reluctantly accepted

  2. Alan Last appointed as the new Chairman (unopposed)

  3. The role of Captain was “split”, Tony Peck would continue as Club Captain (former Managers role) and Steve Morris was appointed Playing Captain  for the season.

  4. Steve appointed Mark as Vice Captain

  5. The Club Structure (draft was accepted but would need to ratified at the next formal AGM)

  6. A draft Club Constitution (draft was accepted but would need some more “tweaking” and will go forward to the next formal AGM)

  7. was also agreed to “honour” both Johns and Tony’s exceptional service to the club by awarding them Honorary  Life President status. This would be formally confirmed at the next formal AGM.

We now move on towards the new season with conformation who will doing what in relation to the senior positions in the club.

We have an exciting season ahead with ample matches for all to play so lets now focus on the playing cricket.

Colin Hunt is organising a bumper raffle so watch out for details.

           13th March Update

All you need for the EGM on Sunday 15th March at 3pm is here. Click on each heading to open and download.

  1. Agenda

  2. Mins of last meeting

  3. Draft Structure

  4. Proposed Constitution

           9th March Update

In order to sort some "administrative" issues out there will be an EGM on Sunday15th March to be held at BCC Clubhouse at 3pm. The Agenda will be available shortly.

           2nd March Update

Just a brief update. Stato has found some photo's from the 1995 Tour at Bournemouth, these are now availably in Pics page in the Pre 2006 folder, so go there and take a look. A few survivors left from that tour still turn out. If anyone else has some old photos let the Webmaster have they for inclusion on the website.

Tony is still in hospital in Eastbourne, its slow progress for him. Trudy is trying to get him transferred nearer to home.

Vice Captain Morris has issued the food allocation sheet for home matches. Click on here (FOOD LIST)to down load it. If Morris's system works it will be a miracle!

           22nd February Update

Its been nearly a month since the last update, well the Webmaster in conjunction with the Roving Reporter has updated the Player Profiles - go to that page and peruse. Marky has been finalising the 2009 fixture list - he's done a brilliant job with over 50 matches to play. In light of this Steve Morris will be ensuring players get a good crack and matches to play. He has sent out an email with his new "rules" for match selection and food allocation. I have replicated his email below.

Anyone wishing to play in a game will have to contact me with his/her availability and i will select a team from those available. I will post the selected team on the website and e mail it to all those on Mark's list. Players will then be responsible for confirming they are available.

There will always be last minute drop outs and the desperate ringing around that follows but hopefully this will keep my phone bill down a little.

The team sheet will also be used to allocate who is bringing what when it comes to the cricket tea on a Sunday. For example 1 could be cheese sandwiches, 6 could be cakes. I will circulate the list in due course. Any player that wants to swap for something else should contact the other player and not me!

If anyone receiving this e mail is not available to play this year then please let me know. Any other information as to availability would also be appreciated. Perhaps you cannot play at weekends or only wish to be considered for home fixtures for example.

Whilst we will always be trying to win games some of the fixtures through the season will have a different emphasis. Batting orders may be reversed and a few different bowlers given a go. These games will be well flagged in advance but if you wish to be left out of such fixtures or if these are the games for you then again let me know.

I'm sure it all makes sense and the squad will support Steve's proposals.

On the Tony front much remains the same. Still not a well man and still an in patient down in Eastbourne. I fear it will be a long up hill battle for him but lets hope and pray for a good recovery and hope that we see him sometime down at an Old Doms match.

Also the rules for the Fantasy cricket challenge has been updated by Stato, these are now available for you perusal on the Fantasy page. Get your teams in and win a mega pot of cash.

And finally, dear old Mark has been had at it arranging this summers Spain Tour. Flights booked and accommodation booked. Those who have yet to pay get your cash to Mark asap. Well done Mark another great job.

           26th January Update

Well another update for all you Olds and site visitors. The Fixture list for this coming season is brimming over with fixtures - Mark has now booked 46 matches - hell that's a lot of games but if the weather is kind to us we may see records being smashed. Last's 50 wickets in a season will almost certainly be beaten - I predict at least 3 bowlers will go well beyond the 50 wicket mark. Steve Morris will get past 1,000 runs for a season, I also think at least one other batsman will pass that magical number. Unfortunately I think 46 games will not be enough for us to see Jonners get past his 1,000th Doms run - hell he needs 6 more and may yet fall short! Last will be aiming for a quadruple busting season of Doms career milestones by reaching 300 matches played, 3,000 runs, 300 wickets and 100 catches - Ladbrokes are giving odds of 7-2 on that one!

As most Doms know Skipper Tony Peck (alias SG Gripper) still is very poorly and we all wish him a speedy recovery.

Some good news has  also reached the Webmaster - following on the heels of Justin and Julie we have two additional "new" Doms who have arrived on the scene, firstly Dave and Katie have produced a little girl, Georgie (6lb 12oz) and Manoj and Lakshmi have produced little Devang (not sure how much he weighed in at!) - there are some good photo's of Devang on Facebook - he's to good looking to be Manoj's !!

I'm sure we will all be treated to drinks at some point!

            14th January Update

Great news - we have a new Doms player on the books - Justin and Julie have produced the latest Doms recruit, Oliver (fondly known as Gooey) who weighed in on Monday at 7lb 14oz (heck nearly as fat as his dad!). Apparently Justin who was standing in the slips during the birth only had sight of Oliver coming his way at the last moment but managed to dive full length and held on one handed just before Oliver touched the turf - it had to go to the video referee who confirmed the catch was good !! Well done to the Anstey household - did I hear "drinks all round"........

            9th January Update

Welcome to the first News Update of 2009 - hell the season still looks a long way off and its still 91 days before we trot out in our freshly pressed whites to take on our hosts Bromsgrove. Me for one cant wait!

Marks been very busy behind the scenes organising next season fixtures - take a look and you will see our fixture list is filling up fast. With the amount of fixtures it may be possible for Statto to reach a 1,000 runs this season. Maybe Pedro or Tank will get past the 50 wickets mark. Although the possibility of Jonners getting the 6 runs needed to get his 1,000 Doms runs is possibly still a stretch to far!!

Mark has also been toiling away sorting out the Spain Tour. If mark emails out information and is needing a quick response please do so as the arrangements for accommodation is nearing a conclusion. A big thanks to Mark for all his hard work during the close season whilst the rest of the squad is idle!

The Roving Reporter has recently returned from another trip down under after enjoying a beach party on Boxing Day in 30c + warmth. He has been sharpening his pencils in preparation for more well balanced reporting.

Tony P is still in and out of the clutches of the NHS - hopefully on the way to recovery and hopefully sprinting out onto the pitch at season start.

           8th December Update

Well we are now well into the "closed season" and its pretty grim out there. The Webmaster is back from his wanderings down in Ozland nice and tanned and is already getting ready to hop on a Qantas flight out of the UK in less than two weeks time in search of the sun and a few stubbies. Eat your hearts out folks!!

News....well there is a bit to disclose.. 2009 Fixtures. Whilst the vast majority of Doms players are busy getting ready for the Christmas stuff good old Mark Hunt has been working hard to get the 2009 season sorted. No rest for this young man - go to the 2009 Fixtures page now and book the match dates in you diaries. More dates will follow.

Also Mark and Jonners have been toiling away sorting out the Spain Tour next August. Emails have been flying around and a deal has been done. Mark has communicated the details to the team so wont be repeated on these pages as yet.

Tony Peck's health continues to baffle the NHS experts, the latest update is that 3 (used) cricket balls and a miniature autographed cricket bat have been found up his nether regions but  his body still need a major overall. But we are pleased to report he has now received the freedom of the NHS for services to bodily functions!!

Christmas is fast creeping up so once that is over its full steam ahead to next season. Lets hope you all get what you want from Santa but lets not forget others worse off that ourselves. So good wishes to you all from the Webmaster and keep popping into the website for updates.

           7th Oct Update

The nights are drawing in and the cricket season past seems such a long time ago. Some notable failures, Steve Morris failing  to 1,000 runs - awful. John Anstey failing to get his 1,000th Doms run - very disappointing and Mark Hunt a long way off that 50 wickets in the season target - ran out of steam. Perhaps they can do better next season?

Next season, that to sounds far away, whilst most of you are enjoying yourselves over the break Mark will be chasing around getting next seasons fixtures and Tom Perry, recently elected as Performance Director will be plotting his training regime for us to work through.

Stato will be changing the batteries in his calculator and practising adding up and the Roving Reporter will be getting some well earned rest in the Australian sunshine for a few months.

Colin Hunt will be organising another bumper do so watch out for further info. Stu Rich will be transcribing the AGM mins from the 27th September, we may get to see them before the next AGM but don't hold your breath. As for the AGM it was a good turnout with the usual on mass vote to leave most things the same, 3 hours of talking when ten mins would have sufficed.

The old boy Peck  at the time of writing this was still in the hands of the Worcester NHS Trust - we still pray that his care will improve! Once the old boy is sorted I expect we will see a fit and spritely Tony opening the bowling off 20 paces relegating Pedro to first change...

The Webmaster is also off to sunnier climbs - Australia I think so there will be no website updates until 30th'ish of November.

Finally we wish Dave Moore all the best for his forthcoming marriage unless the poor lady realises what's she's about to do and does a midnight runner!!

Best wishes to you all from the Webmaster  who is off to pack his surf board...

               23rd Sept Update

Well it looks like the season has come to an end as there are only a few takers for a final match this weekend - soft lot!

Please check the Stats pages for the final tables and the Fantasy Page for the final placing's...

            22nd Sept Update

Well time moves on and the Doms have another "First" to report on! Yes the 2nd Presentation Gala Evening for 2008  took place on Friday with the season yet to finish. It was again a great evening organised by the intrepid Colin Hunt who came up trumps again - a big well done to that man. It was a great night for those of us who can remember. Pedro, you can re-acquaint yourself with the night by trotting off to the Picture Page and rummaging around in the 2008 folder where you can see all 80 odd photos taken plus a couple that were taken at the Erdington match the following day.

The awards were presented by a dapper looking Jonners sporting a "mid night beard" following a lengthy and in depth speech by Skips. The awards were as follows:

  • Players Player - Phil Walshe

  • Clubman of the Year - Karim Ladha

  • Batsman - Steve Morris

  • Bowler - Alan Last

  • Fielder - Tom Hickin

  • 50's bats - to Steve, Tom (P), Tom (H), Phil, Sam and Dave

Well done again to all those players who turned out for the Doms in 2008.

As noted above the photos are on the Picture Page via the "Enter" tag. Go to the 2008 folder and you will see a separate folder with all the pictures taken.

Don't forget - its the AGM this Saturday 27th at 7pm at Bromsgrove CC. Be there and participate in the running of your club. You even get to vote on things!!

            15th Sept Update

Well the Doms 6's team did well and only lost out of a Semi Final place through some slow and predictable batting by Stato Morris (as dictated by Pedro Hunt). But it was a grand effort given they were missing Last'y a 6's specialist. A report of the Doms games appear on the Reports page - go there and read. Picture will follow when Steve unloads in Box Brownie.

I understand Mark has arranged an AGM on 27th September at Bromsgrove CC  7.30pm kickoff- further info will be posted on this but we do need a good turnout.

            12th Sept Update

Well the photos of the Menorca Tour are now appearing on the Pics Page - they appear in the 2008 folder. Also the two team shots are in the Team folder. Happy viewing. There are some more shot that I have that  I may get around to exposing sometime. If any other Tourist took any photo's (Stato and the Roving Reported did)

please let me have them (Webmaster).

Don't forget to support the 6's squad on Sunday - they need it!

             7th Sept Update

Well the rain got the better of the Doms two matches over the weekend - what a surprise. Only the Sixes to look forward to next week - weather permitting of course!

Menorca Tour - the Roving Reporters Star Ratings are to be seen on the Tour news page - some interesting ratings. A bit of advice - don't let your hair go green! Lifetime Tour stats have been updated. All that's left is the tour photos - these are taking longer than usual as some extreme editing needs to be done before general release...

Presentation Night - Colin has been doing sterling work behind the scenes so get your best suits cleaned and shoes polished.

             5th Sept Update

Well the boys are back from Menorca - go to the Reports page to read the Roving Reporters cutting match reports. BIG news Morris fails with bat, Hunt under the cosh in Menorca.

The Player Stats have been updated and the RR will be compiling his Player Tour Ratings which will appear on the Tour News page in the next day or so. It will make interesting reading...

Only a few matches left to go and tomorrows games looks doubtful - not a good season for playing cricket in soggy England.

Tour pictures will be released soon following censorship. Watch these pages for news on this.

23rd Aug Update

A shocking piece of dress sense occurred at a recent Doms game. The player knows who he is...

                              nasty dress sense

       20th Aug Update

August is meandering its way through -  a now typical English summer! After the stuffing of Old Moseley Arms a much weakened Doms lose to Springhill by just 8 runs - a good effort but another match slips away that should have be won. It was good to see young Luke Rowan taking his first Old Doms steps, we need to nurture him as it is important to get some youngsters involved and supporting the oldies. I understand the Springhill tea was the worst tea the Doms have been given and at £40 it seems a bit sad that the quality/quantity doesn't match the cost charged. Perhaps it was a bad tea day for the Springhill lads?

Some news on the Menorca Tour appears in the Tour page so go there to see what Tour operator Pedro has been up to.

Colin Hunt has also been busy with the "Awards Gala Night" arrangements.

"Hi Alan, please find attached the menu's for the presentation evening. Could you ask people to e-mail me if they want to come and what meal they would like. Please pay by cheque made payable to OLDDOMS C.C, NO cash payment please"

Please click on these links to see the menu..   LINK ONE       Link TWO

So please get onto this and contact Colin with your cheques and food selection...DO IT NOW!

    14th Aug Update

Well its time for an update..... the Menorca tour is nearly upon us - players trying to stay fit or get fit. Pecky is resting in Eastbourne, Jonners is just resting somewhere! Shirts have arrived and Tank is sorting out distribution. Lets hope we have some warm weather.

August started badly for the Doms getting beat by Henley when a victory was there for the taking then getting rolled over by the Bromsgrove lads was also a close thing. But as we know the Doms can turn it on and a right royal stuffing was meated out to Old Moseley Arms last weekend.

With no more mid week matches we now have a run in of 7 weekend matches - Morris must cross the 1,000 run mark and Jonners needs just 6 more runs for his 1,000 Doms run. Pastry needs to keep fit to pass his 200'th Doms appearance and IKEA Man is just three balls short of bowling his 200th over. Targets are tumbling...

     1st Aug Update

Well a new month is upon us and the Doms season continues to fluctuate. Lots of close high scoring matches. Great to see Stato racing to his 1,000 run of the season - may be a first? Pedro is going to need to get a spurt on to get 50 wickets this season but if not this year next season will be his year I'm sure.

We had 2,404 individual site hits in July with over 17,000 pages read by those visiting - good stuff.

Menorca Tour - Pedro has been emailing out information and now collecting money from those going - its a shame we only have the bare 11 going - there must be someone else out there who wants a game on foreign soil? Catch up with Pedro if you need more info.

Spain Tour 2009 is being firmed up and Pedro is collection deposits so make sure you contact him with you cash  - he's running around like a mad thing organising so it would be of help for players to contact him rather than him chasing you.

     27th July Update

Well where was the big cheer for Stato Steve Morris when he ran/limped onto the field of play on Sunday?  - no arch of bats, no standing ovation from the crowd, no plaque (not sure if this is the dental spelling) placed over the pavilion door and no souvenir t-shirts to be had (missed a trick here!). 52 consecutive game, not sure who's record he beat but no doubt he will tell us at some point. Steve has kept going through thick and thin, through a glut of runs (off his bowling) and a few off his bat. Well done Steve - only another 48 to go but obviously  Skipper Peck will now ask you to stand down a game or two to give others a game or just to drop you.

The Doms continue through their season with a few games yet to go before the bats and pads are tucked away again except for players like Stato who keeps his out just in case...

   24th July Update

Good game last night but poor result, a game to have won but we bottled it - read the stinging RR report in the Reports Page.

Club Blazers...

The colour swatch has been seen by most and a number of players have nodded their commitment to purchase one. Well you now have 10 days to let Lasty have your order - You need to tell him your blazer size - try on a Marks and Spencer's blazer, so you will be looking for a size such as 44R . If you get this wrong the blazer will be wrong so make sure you get it right. You will also need to give him a cheque for £50 as a deposit. Once I have the final numbers I will then tell you haw much discount we have got from the £129+vat quoted for a single blazer.

Over to you boys....

  21st July Update

Well that was a good match - IKEA man and Chickin in the runs as we  dispose of Frenchay with plenty to spare. Good performance marred by inept fielding, but that's the Doms for you.

Health Warning..

A number of players have been going down with a mystery chest complaint - Peck, Morris, Pedro and Last all victims. Morris and Last diagnosed as "Asthma" and taking steroids to combat this inability to get any oxygen into the lungs. I'm told (from a close source) its ODS - Old Doms Syndrome prevalent in the older players but can also attack the young, weak and feeble, I suppose this is where Pedro comes in.

Disciplinary Hearing?

Complaints have been made that Last took the opportunity to "rest" by sitting on a nearby seat between the Frenchay batsmen trudging from wicket to pavilion instead of running 50 yards or so to celebrate with the others and running back into position.

The Disciplinary Panel has considered the sole complaint and have thrown the complaint out as malicious whingeing. They applauded Last's ingenuity of conserving his energy to enable him to mop up the poor backing up by the complainant during the match.

Club Blazers

A colour swatch has been received and considered. An email will be sent out to Old Doms players to get their commitment to purchase a blazer. Their order must be received with a £50 deposit.

  17th July Update

Dates for you diaries....

The Doms Events Organiser ( Colin Hunt) met with the Webmaster to discuss important  events for this Autumn/Winter. So can all players, the technical support team  and the Supporters Club please note the following...

19th September - Presentation Evening. To be held at the Tally Ho. 7pm for a 7.30 start. The cost will be £21 per adult and £11 for children and pensioners. The menu for this event will be posted on the website soon.

20th  February 2009 - Beer and Skittles Night at Bromsgrove CC club house (as per last time). More details will follow.

So get these dates firmly in the diaries and there will be no excuses for not attending !

The weather is looking very autumnal today so for tonight's match players will need their thick cable knit jumpers on, not those bri-nylon imitation cricket jumpers that Twatto wears....

 15th July Update

Not much news around - three good games in a row - all last ball games with the Doms coming out on top twice - see Match reports page.

Dolly's off on holiday and the Roving Reporter is looking after his Oz kiddies for a week or two but will be back for Sunday's game - if on!

Pedro is back - case intact - he now has six weeks or so ahead to unpack. Bish Bash is also away with the kids - a teachers life is very hard.

We had an email from Cambodia this week from an ex pat - great that our website is proving useful in keeping up to date with top notch cricket..

No appeals were received from the "golfers" who were thrown out of the recent Old Doms Classic at Royal Eastbourne so Peck and Last remain the Championship best pair.

We are looking at getting  a club blazer made - well not just one but a number - some already know about this - details will be posted and emailed soon - its likely to be green and gold stripes- cost less than £129+vat (all depends on numbers bought)

We are two thirds through the season - all is going well. Lets keep up the winning streak. Its good to see so many getting a game.

 8th July Update

Dolly's mug shot has now replaced the over used Morris photo - yippee I hear shouted at the back. New faces of Dave M and Rob R appear on the Players Profile page.

And finally Stato has provided up to date "all time records" that you can find on the Stats pages.

Coming up over the next day or so will be pictures of the Hastings Tour so watch these pages.

Anyone heard from Pedro - case get away on time?

      7th July Update

A few news items for you, firstly the Webmaster has received the following obituary for inclusion on these pages..

In Affectionate Remembrance of Steven Morris's bowling  which died at Mountfield on 5th July 2008, deeply lamented by a large circle of sorrowing friends and batsmen.

 R.I.P.

His spinning finger will be cremated and taken to Bromsgrove.

On a more lighter note... conversation heard at the Doms last match against Old Westheathians. The scene. Batsman asks Umpire for chalk to mark his guard on the artificial batting strip. Umpire calls to the Pavilion "Can someone get some chalk please?".  "What for?" comes the helpful reply from the Scorers table. The somewhat perplexed Umpire replies "for the f*cking blackboard".

The Old Doms Tour to Hastings.

You will read from the Roving Reporters report a good time was had by all and the Doms came away winners with a ball to spare. Mark and Soft Hands came away 55 out of pocket.

The Doms annual tour golf tournament was played this year at Royal Eastbourne. The competition was well supported and played in fine weather. The result is a  follows:

Junior Champion - Alex Rich

Senior Pairing Champions for 2008 went to:

Peck and Last.

The following pairings were disqualified under the PGA Rules:

Wright and Walshe - transgressed Rules 6.6a,b,c,12,15,20,21

Perry and Hunt M - transgressed Rules 6.6a,b,c 20

Morris and Soft Hands -transgressed Rules 6.6a,b,c 20

Rich Snr - for playing with a minor.

All have leave to appeal under Rule 34. 34.2 and 34.3 applies.

Well done to Alex, Peck and Last for upholding the rules of the tournament and were worthy winners.

Finally for today..

No mid week match this week, rumours abound the reason behind this decision....

       3rdJuly Update

Yes your very own Old Doms Club Shop is now open. We have a great range of stock on offer - just to name two..

  • Playing shirt (L,XL and XXL) Sale price £10

Order now from ATL - goods will only be exchanged for cash/cheque or PayPal transfer. Email your order via the website email address now to avoid disappointment !

     2nd July Update

Well the game tonight was called off - those who didn't get the call it was off got there to find the ground bathed in sunshine and the wicket very playable. The artificial track could have been used? The outfield looked a dream nice a green and very firm. Very poor call by someone - too early?

Well we now move on to game 2 of this three of this week. Peck, Last and Walshe didn't sit around they went off and played a full game of football - hell these old'uns are fit - You wont see these players dropping out through poor fitness - whilst the young guns will be puffing and panting come Sunday night the "seniors" will be sharp as nails.

Any player interested in a club blazer? some of the more financially sound players are in the process of buying  - contact Last'y for info and costs.

    1st July Update

Well what a week ahead - two mid week games followed by a short interval when we trek down to Hastings to play Mountfield on Saturday. Then nip back home to Brum for our Sunday fixture against Old Westheathians - this will largely depend on Pecky get the right fuel in the bus! This will sort the men out from the boys in terms of fitness - I reckon Peck, Anstey and Last will still be out gunning the young'uns by Sunday night!

The Fantasy table is looking interesting - will we see a late burst by the "Go Ons" ?

   27th June Update

That was one hell of a match last night against Hewell - great game to play in. Go and enjoy the Roving Reporters Match Day report...

Change of opponents for next week - Old Griffs cant get a team so Bourneville School Staff have stepped in (quick before they break up a disperse to the hotter climes of the Algarve).  Its at the Alvelchurch ground.

Also the match against KES Kestrals  for 15th July has been cancelled - again start of the long summer break for the teachers - hell its hard being a teacher!

    24th June Update

Well that it folks - we have gone over the 1m visitor to the site - I will try and find out who that was - may be a big prize on the way!

   23rd June Update

Well we have finally changed the MoM photo - I think we were all getting fed up with Tank scrolling around - lets hope Stato keeps challenging for this coveted spot on the website.

Keep watching out for site updates and please send in any stuff that you think would be useful to share. Carrot cake recipe maybe?

   20th June Update

The Doms provided a third win on the trot last night with a convincing win against the Old Westheathians (see the Roving Reporters Match Report). We now move on to play WMD this Sunday but the weather looks like being a winner here.

Message from Mark Hunt re shirts and Spain tour...

Shirts quotes have come in and orders have been placed. Shirts are priced at £23. The £20 quote we were given did not include VAT. Could i ask that all monies owing for the shirt are paid asap as we have to send the money to Sabre in the next two weeks.

Also as we are preparing the final monies for Menorca and i will shorlty give you the costs for the accommodation which will be needed to be paid in due course.

     Message from the Captain...

" A view from the top-----A Skipper's thoughts"

What are the Old Doms about?

Winning games--No, Losing games--No, Drawing games--No,

None of these yet all of these,

The Doms are about playing cricket.

Upholding the true spirit of this glorious game.

An opportunity for those budding stars of the future to develop,

An opportunity for those creaking and grey-haired to 'don' the whites and dream of yesteryear.

An opportunity to pit your wits, guile and skills against the opposition.

An opportunity to refresh, replenish and remark on the preceding battle whilst in the clubhouse with an ale or two.

An opportunity to meet new friends, re-establish old acquaintances and delve into the jolly banter and wit that accompanies a post-mortem.

What league are we aiming to top?

What trophies are we trying to win?

None.

We are the true sportsmen / women of our time.

A true reflection on what is missing in our society.

True integration, family spirit, friendship, honesty and a spirit to all pull together.

This is not just a reflection of life as we would like.

This is cricket"

 16th June Update

Well its the day after the match before and Phillo and Hodgy will still be living their dreams whilst the rest of us wonder when Lady Luck will be coming our way. Stato will still be dusting himself off after his collision out in the field. Heady days.

The match report is now in and the Fantasy table updated - some movers and shakers but the gap between top and bottom is widening by the match.

The Guest Page has moved - following consultation to be next to this News Page in the hope Guests will find it.

Just waiting for the team news for Wednesday - who's in who's out? we shall have to wait and see what Skipper Peck unravels.

   14th June Update

Well according to Stato Steve the Guest Book is now working - remember boys its for Guest's not for you lot to mess around with - we have a certain level of Guest Book storage that is free once we go over the free limit we pay. So be warned!

The Roving Reporter has been out with the hedge trimmer and lawn mower today to get ahead of the tasks at home so he gets loads of time to sharpen his pencil before tomorrow game!

Any news updates or gossip forward onto the webmaster for inclusion.

    13th June Update

Well after last nights debacle we move on to our home turf - "about time" I hear you say ! Its Earlswood for a "winner takes all" match. One each and one to play - could be a good game if the weather holds.

I cant go without mentioning last night - the Old Doms had a good turnout  for lasts nights match - the sun had been shinning for most of the day - it was a glorious night to play cricket. Well the grounds man has the final call but its disappointing that the Whitehill Wanders lads didn't have the courtesy to make sure we knew the game was off - bad form and should not have happened.

Those with a keen eye will have seen that the Webmaster has added a new page - Guest Book. There is still a problem that is being sorted (it fails to load the "Post Form"). Hopefully this will be sorted soon and the many guests we have can leave a message. So keep watching and do make some observations about the Guest Book layout and questions.

Keep smiling.

 12th June Update

Doms loose to OU and head out to Barnt Green. Baggy green caps ordered and the Hasting short tour is being finalised as we speak!

  5th June Update

As most will know by now one of the Doms long time supporters passed away unexpectedly a few days ago. Seamus was that man. A close pal of John's, Seamus was a "real" cricket fan and supported the Bears through the good and bad times. He kept tabs on the Doms through John and many a text would flash across the ether letting Seamus know how we had faired in our latest match.

Those who travelled to Spain for last year's tour will have enjoyed the company of Seamus - he came for a long weekend and was able to get in a couple of matches but no keepy uppy in the pool. Some of the photos he took are included on our photo gallery page.

A great observer of cricket, he will be missed. On behalf of the Doms we send our best wishes to his family and friends at this sad time. I'm sure Seamus would not want any fuss and will be keeping an eye on the Doms results from his lofty position - perhaps he can have a word about sorting out some decent weather for the Doms games?

John has provided the "arrangements"  for next week;

  • Wednesday 11th June
  • 10am St Brigids Church Northfield
  • 11.30 Kings Norton Cemetery Longdales Road
  • 12.00 onwards at the Tom Dollery Bar Warwick CC

Its a sad time and again we wish his family our condolences.

  4th June Update

Well Peck has named the team for Sundays match - looks ok but as we now come to expect it will be called off for rain or teams short or the date is wrong or there's a "J" in the month -if we play it will be like starting all over again. Keep things crossed that we will play..

Check out the Fantasy page as we now publish the Player rating table - so if you want to make transfers you now have the info.

   3rd June Update

Would you believe it - both Tuesday and Wednesdays matches are off - bit bemused by Wednesday's cancellation - seems a bit soon to me - funny stuff eh?

   2nd June Update

Well no match on Sunday - Old Westheathians gone west may be?

   30th May Update

Well the team is announced - Yes, Nick Rowan and Justin Anstey do exist - cant wait to see the match report...

   29th May Update

Match tonight against WH Wanderers is off - and as I look out at the glorious blue sky and sweat dripping sun I give a sigh...

  22nd May Update

Well for some reason we have no match until next Thursday 29th at White Hill Wanderers'   - Barnt Green. I suppose we expected the Bristol one to be off but not the Kes Kestrals one, school holidays may be the problem?? Who would have booked a cricket match against a school side during a school holiday week - yep you've guessed it two teachers! the life of our kids are in their hands!

 21st May Update

Doms loose to Weoley Hill but were comforted by some bags of Fish and Chips. Go and read the RR match Report for all the game happenings.

Club Caps - attempts have been made to purchase some proper cricket caps rather than these poor baseball poor imitations. A supplier has been sourced - the caps are modelled on the Aussie "Baggy Greens" - they will cost under £14 and will be available in the next four weeks . The idea is that we have just one club cap that will last "forever" rather than buying a different one every time we go on tour - so in the long run it will be cheaper also. So watch this space and start saving your £14.

19th May Update

Good news on the playing front as the Doms win again this time at Earlswood. Tom Perry picking up the Skippers MoM award. The RR has penned a report and the Webmaster has updated the Fantasy League table.

Lets get set for a win at Weoley Hill - don't forget its a5.30 kickoff.

   17th May Update

      IMPORTANT NEWS

Tomorrows game against the Sportman has gone "bump" - cock up time, not ours! So good old Pedro has managed to get a re-match with Earlswood at Earlswood (they had a cancellation as well) so chance for revenge may be?. Be there if not look out for the Roving Reporters report on Monday morning.

    16th May Update

Great news - the Doms win their first match. Played at Bromsgrove the Doms faced Old Moseley Arms CC over a 20 over match. The Doms won comfortably by 9wks with James Hickin and Deno Moore doing the damage with the bat. The Roving Reporter as you know is holed up at home following eye surgery so was unable to be there and more importantly unable to bring you a full match report but Stato Steve has filed a report so go directly to the Reports Page and read the ramblings of Stato.

Its now off to  Richmond Hill on Sunday to get head to head with our chummies for the Sportsman CC.

  12th May Update

Well the Doms finally got a match in and it was a good one too although the Doms lost - see the Reports page for the Roving Reporters match eye view on events and happenings. Later today the photos from the game will appear on these pages as will the Fantasy League updates- keep watching...

  8th May Update

The season awards presented at the Presentation night a few weeks ago are now in and are as follows;

  • Bowler - Mark Hunt

  • Batsman - Steve Morris

  • Fielder - James Hickin

  • Players player - Steve Morris

  • Clubman - Alan Last

Lets hope those who won awards are continuing to polish their well earned trophy's.

The Webmaster has placed some interesting photo's of IoW tours 92 and 93. These can be found in the Doms Gallery in the respective folder. Some really good shots of young Stato and an hairy Jonners. These have been supplied from the Steve Morris archives.

Lets see if we can find some more shots of Doms of yesteryear! Also we need someone to take regular shots at this season matches - any takers?

 5th May Update

Well weather got the better of the Dom and Oak n Ash yesterday - so for the umpteemed time the rain has foiled our match.

The teams retired to the Club house to watch the Championship playoffs and scoffed the sandwiches - for the Baggies and Eagle's fans the rain was a God send as they were able to see how the teams did - God works in mysterious ways..

Next match a "tuffy" at Earlswood (weather permitting).

Watch out later today as Stato has found some old photos - 1993 IoW Tour - not many familiar faces ! Look out for the Anstey Last nit picking photo....

   30 April Update

Exciting news - Fantasy cricket is here again (judging by Sundays performance the Doms players are in a fantasy world if they think they will win any matches this year if fingers are not extracted).

You will notice that we now have a dedicated page to the Doms Fantasy Cricket League this season with even more information - kindly supplied by Mr Stato Morris himself.

There is also a "special" challenge for the "fatties" - all will become clear when you pop into the Fantasy page.

The Webmaster has had to juggle around with the top "links" to fit this new page in - let me know if the top links on the Home page are too crammed in.

Presentation Night - Webmaster is still awaiting the report on who got what and any monies raised.

Menorca Tour - an update to be provided soon but alls going well and the Spain 2009 Tour is also moving on regarding sorting out accommodation - watch these pages.

  26thApril Update

NETS - we now have to pay a £1 each when we use the nets which will go towards the up keep - not a bad deal a pound for a couple of hours entertainment.. Nets Mondays at 5.30.

Have a look at the revised Picture Gallery - some interesting advances particularly the "Movie" folder ! The Webmaster is still working on some of the additional features but some can only be tested out in the "live" environment so please bear with him whilst he sorts out teething probs.

Finally we did get a game of sorts on Sunday - saved by the heavens opening - not a good start. You can read the views of the Roving Reporter on the Match Reports page - he is sharpening his pencil for the next report!

Important News....

Dave Wright has kindly offered to do all the club laundry this season - top man Dave. Will players please sew labels into clothing to help Dave when returning laundered kit.

Please let the web master have any "printable" news items and please give feed back on the new site as well as notifying him of any links that are not working.

   10th April updates..

1. Please see Tour page for an update on the Menorca 2008 tour and the Spain (Albir) 2009 tour.

2. Availability for matches - Please let Tony know as soon as you receive text/phone messages from him regarding your availability to play. Failure to do so may lead you to loosing your place in the team for that match. Please make sure you do this.

3. Players Profile page is has now been updated.

 4. Presentation Night - awaiting report from Colin - watch this space.

Old stuff....

AGM

The AGM duly took place on 19th October with a very good Doms turnout. For a good read of the Minutes of the meeting Please click HERE to read them.

Club Stats

Stato has been working away with his sharp pencil and calculator to produce the very latest club stats. The Webmaster has now created a new site page Club Record Stats to hold all this interesting data about the club performance records. Go and have a look and wonder at the achievements of the Old Doms over the seasons. Good bed time reading. You will also note that the 2007 season Player Stats have now been completed. Some great performances in 2007.

Site Links

I

These will be updated  over the next few weeks following the need to rebuild the web site - if you have any interesting links to include in the site please email the Webmaster.

2006 Player Awards

At long last the 2006 awards took place. The ceremony was held at Brisa Del Mara a bar come restaurant in Albir hosted by the gorgeous Lorna and "Villan" Darren during the recent tour. The Chairman - Jonners Anstey presented the following awards...

It was a great night out with good food and loads to drink. We now all look forward to 2007 awards that hopefully will be held in 2007 - watch this site...

One final piece of news from the Spain tour.... the Old Doms Tour Golf Competition...

Men's Section Jointly won by A Last and T Peck on 45 with Mark Hunt and Stato close behind.

Women's Section - Beno on 42.

We look forward to next years competition where Last and Peck will defend their titles. Great stuff.

Would you??

Bat without a box? Bat without pads? Bat without gloves? No of course you wouldn't so why do most of the Doms players persist in not wearing a helmet when batting? I think I have only been hit in the “box” once since I started playing cricket. But have been hit in the face twice. One requiring 11 stitches the other needing  reconstruction of my eye socket and permanent nerve damage. I need a special lens in my glasses to correct the sight damage. Two years on and I'm still taking pain killers four times a day, my surgeon says it wont get any better. The pain is for life.

I feel compelled to post these thoughts as we witnessed on Sunday, when my namesake had a ball deflected into his face whilst fielding a ball. He was “shaken but not stirred” but needed to leave the field to attend to his bleeding nose, a few cm difference and the ball hits his eye. It all happens in a split second. You have no control.

Cricketers are more susceptible to higher-risk injuries. Cricket injuries rank fifth among causes of non-fatal accidents. 90% of all head injuries in cricket could have been prevented by wearing an helmet.

So lads think. How would you cope with one eye?  Are you insured? Can you afford to loose time off work? Tell you what, before you go into bat next time don’t wear your box – the ball will never hit you there.

You all have or have access to a helmet, please wear one.
